MRS TWINING
Living & Dining Room

CASE STUDY

The Brief:

Our clients wished to make their dining/lounge rooms lighter and more modern but also in keeping with the character of their semi-detached Cottage.

The Space:

Each room hosted a dark open brick inglenook with very dark beams/lintels in both rooms and black beams along the lounge. The client's sofa also being black accompanied by dark furniture and their carpet being terracotta obviously created a very dark space.

What we proposed:

We proposed to plasterboard both alcoves of each room and at the side of two centre fires as well as above the main lintel. Removal of existing carpet and applying good PVC flooring in the lounge area along with a nice rug to blend in with design. We proposed a light blue colour palette from Fired Earth to introduce a fresh and neutral splash of colour. Reupholstering of the original dining chairs to save on budget.

Paint:

Coloured in Fired Earth - Mocking Bird chimney breast to lounge – Blue Ashes and Pearl ashes to certain areas and pearl ashes spray painted to fitted units which again where originally dark wood all round.

White ceilings in emulsion and the door leading to kitchen paint that was originally in pine wood -again all this made the room lighter.

Wallpaper:

Wall papering to back wall in lounge – again from villa nova in the green accent – seat covering on the 1 easy chair in chatham glynn blue/green tartan.

Lighting:

Offering good lighting over table and lounge ceiling as well as the lamps made a huge difference to the room. This industrial but contemporary style light was chosen by both the client and I at the NEC Giftshow and really does fit the space perfectly.

Reupholstery:

We recovered the tall chairs at the end of dining table and seat pads in another accent fabric – both of which from villa nova.

Soft Furnishings:

We made the cushions and table runner from a Greek fabric company – which offer some very unusual designs.

Windows

We proposed window shutters in white and this contract undertook both windows in lounge, dining  1 window – landing, master bathroom and master bedroom in order to provide uniformity to clients home.

All work was undertaken where we appointed plaster, decorators, electrician & our own upholsterer.

Whilst work was in motion we invited the client to visit the NEC Giftshow which took place in Feb 2019 and we choose all lighting, polished concrete lamp table – table centre piece of glassware and foliage.

This all came together with complete satisfaction of client.

Work completed in May 2019.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

"We were in need of some help to modernise our lounge /diner and maintain the character features, when we contacted Marguerite. I wasn't sure if we could afford an interior designer but thought it was worth an enquiry. Marguerite offers different services to suit all budgets from initial idea / colour schemes etc to providing support on a complete project. We opted for a combination of services by sourcing some tradesmen direct ourselves. We are really pleased with the outcome of our lounge /diner and will definitely use Marguerites services again."
